Light Sussex are considered a heavy breed among heavy breeds. Roosters can weigh in at 9 plus pounds and hens at 7 plus pounds. They are a calm, ground dwelling breed that is truly dual purpose, producing large brown eggs and is also suitable as table bird.
We discovered Light Sussex in our quest for a dual purpose breed whose beauty matched it's usefulness. Who wouldn't rather look at a beautiful bird instead of a plain old bird if given the choice?
